Coronavirus ibruprofen fears dismissed by NHS who say there's 'no strong evidence' it makes virus worse

The NHS say there is "no strong evidence" that suggests taking ibruprofen makes the symptoms of coronavirus worse.

There had been some suggestion on social media that it may not be safe to take the painkiller if suffering with Covid-19.

It was also claimed by the parents of a young child that taking ibruprofen while suffering some symptoms caused her to become seriously ill.

However the NHS have now said there is no evidence to suggest any risk of the painkiller.

A statement on the NHS coronavirus advice webpage reads: "There is currently no strong evidence that ibruprofen can make coronavirus (Covid19) worse.

"But until we have more information, take paracetamol to treat the symptoms of coronavirus, unless your doctor has told you paracetamol is not suitable for you.

"If you are already taking ibruprofen or another non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) on the advice of a doctor, do not stop taking it without checking first."
