A couple in Vancouver have made over $100,000 by selling Lysol cleaning products on Amazon, amid coronaviruspanic.
With Covid-19 officially classified as a pandemic, consumers around the world have started stockpiling goods, with soap, toilet roll and cleaning products the main targets.
The couple, Manny Ranga and Violeta Perez told the Toronto Star that they visit all of the Costco's in their area every day, buying as many disinfecting wipes and liquid cleaners as possible, before selling them on Amazon.
Mr Ranga said that although they sometimes spend over $1,000 on a trip, they can sell a $20 pack of wipes for over $80 online.
"It's as easy as supply and demand." Ms Perez told the Star. "And now, there's excessive demand."
Although they have already had to spend $70,000, short term profit has been vast with over $100,000 worth of products sold so far.
The couple have taken on buying and selling these products full time after the market turned into what Ms Perez described as, “excessive demand.”
"The whole lot we do, we're within the second." Ms Perez told The Star, "we're hustlers."
Amazon have stated they will crack down on those capitalising on Covid-19 by selling products for an inflated price.
In a letter to senator Edward Markey, the corporation wrote: "We have suspended thousands of accounts of sellers who have engaged in price gouging and we have begun working with several state attorneys general to prosecute the worst offenders."
