Coronavirus: how to get help with paying your Edinburgh Council Tax

It's a difficult time for all Edinburgh residents and as many have found themselves suddenly facing unemployment over the last week there have been questions raised as to what support there is out there when it comes to unavoidable bills like Council Tax.

The City of Edinburgh Council have released information on how you can get help with paying your Council Tax in these uncertain times.

First and foremost, anyone who is struggling is urged to to contact the Council at incomeandbenefits@edinburgh.gov.uk so that they can ensure that you are getting all of the support that you are entitled to re benefits, grants etc.

Where you are unable to make payment, or can only make a partial payment, the Council will defer any recovery action until July 2020, at the earliest.

You may be considered for a special payment plan so that your Council Tax due for 2020/21 is split over an appropriate period, specific to your individual circumstances.

The Council have requested that all contact is via email to incomeandbenefits@edinburgh.gov.uk.
