Coronavirus: map shows how the pandemic has hit countries across the world

The coronavirus continues to spread across world, with more countries now contending the outbreak than not.

Originally dubbed the "Wuhan-flu", the novel virus which causes COVID-19 has quickly spread from the city in China around the globe.

Whilst the death rate of the virus looks to be around found four per cent, it is incredibly infectious which is why government and the health system are battling to contain it.

But exactly where are the confirmed outbreaks in the UK and abroad?

There have been ten deaths across the UK, all of which have been patients aged over 60 who had underlying helath conditions.

Thursday saw the biggest jump in the number of confirmed cases in 24 hours, with 24 new patients being diagnosed in Scotland bring the total confirmed to 60.

Lothians is the most infected area, with 11 patients being treated for the virus across the region.

Outside of the UK the eyes of the world have been on Italy, as the country introduced nationwide lockdowns in a last ditched attempt to try to control how fast the infection was spreading throughout the country.

Similar travel bans have now been instituted in the US who have banned all travel from the EU, although UK travellers can still fly to the country.
