Coronavirus: How people looking for a job in Stockport can find work during the Covid-19 outbreak

A council has set up a job-matching service to support its residents into employment and keep money coming in during the coronavirus outbreak.

While some businesses have been forced to close or have seen orders down, others have had a surge in demand for their services.

Stockport Council has now launched a dedicated website to help support employers with vacancies and individuals across the borough looking for work.

Stockport Jobs Match hopes to connect employers with urgent temporary or permanent vacancies with applicants available immediately and in need of employment.

Stockport Council’s website states: “The website features job opportunities from all sectors experiencing a surge in demand including supermarkets who have vacancies for positions including sales staff, shelf stackers, warehouse operatives and delivery drivers.

“There is also a call for temporary staff to cover priority functions due to sickness including in the areas of healthcare, social care and education.”

People looking for work can upload their CV (or an overview of recent employment and key skills if they don’t have a CV).

They can then ask to be alerted to suitable vacancies matching their skills.

Employers are able to submit details of their vacancy, the experience or minimum criteria required from applicants, the working hours and duration.

They will then receive notifications directly with CVs of applicants matching their requirements.

The Stockport Jobs Match service is free for individuals and businesses. The website will also signpost individuals to available support services and information.

Residents can visit Stockport Jobs Match for more information.
