By way of comparison, seven days ago 431 people died in Covid-19 in UK hospitals.
At that point that was the highest Thursday hospital death toll since May.
The high death figures come as the Government prepares to split England into three different tiers.
From next Wednesday villages, towns and cities will be placed in either Tier 1, 2 or 3.
It was announced today that only the Isle of Wight, the Isles of Scilly and Cornwall will be in the first tier.
Some 32 million people in England - just over 57% of the population - will be in Tier 2.
A total of 23.3 million people in England - 41.5% of the population - will be in Tier 3 of the Government's Covid-19 restrictions from December 2.
