Coronavirus: Home and Away cancel filming with Emmerdale and Coronation Street set to be next

Home and Away has become the latest soap to stop production in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Australian show, the country’s longest running series, has decided to turn the cameras off.

It follows EastEnders’ decision to cease filming as the BBC refuse to risk cast and crew’s health in the wake of the global crisis.

Emmerdale and Coronation Street have yet to suspend recording totally but are expected to follow suit in the days ahead.

Home and Away have already made the decision but the Seven Network, who produce the show which is watched in more than 80 countries, says none of the stars or staff have fallen ill.

A spokesperson told  7NEWS.com.au : “Seven Studios advised today that it would halt filming of Home and Away immediately.

“It confirms that no cast or crew had tested positive for COVID-19, but that the decision was made due to the increasing logistical hurdles related to the COVID-19 situation.”

The Australian Big Brother will continue but the production company behind the reality show has confirmed that the studio is in lockdown.

An Endemol spokesperson said; “We have been made aware that a Big Brother crew member has been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

“The crew member is currently feeling well and showing no symptoms of the virus, however, is being tested and is now self-isolating. As a precaution, the site is currently in lockdown pending testing and further advice.

“We continue to work within all Federal and State guidelines and will always make the health, safety and well-being of our cast and crew our number one priority. Housemates have been brought up to date with the current situation.”

*Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV and Coronation Street on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV
