Five players of the men’s hockey team, including captain Manpreet Singh, have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Sports Authority of India Centre in Bengaluru.
The teams, both men and women, had reported back for the national camp on Monday after a 45-day break. Besides Manpreet, Surender Kumar, Jaskaran Singh, Varun Kumar and goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak have tested positive.
All five had travelled together from their hometowns and are likely to have contracted the virus en route. Interestingly, Manpreet had celebrated his birthday last month with a few friends and teammates, including Varun.
All players are in quarantine at the SAI Centre since arrival as part of the State and SAI protocol.
