Coronavirus hoax claims '5G causes virus' by 'sucking oxygen out of your lungs'

Over the last few months, a new coronavirus has swept the globe, reaching every continent except Antarctica.

The coronavirus, called COVID-19, is believed to have originated in animals before spreading to humans.

However, a bizarre new conspiracy theory claims that 5G is actually to blame.

The strange claims are circulating on social media, with many indicating that 5G ‘causes coronavirus’ by ‘sucking oxygen out of your lungs.’

A post on Facebook to the ‘Stop 5G UK’ page explained: “Wuhan is where 5G was rolled out.

“What if all we are seeing in Wuhan is sickness from exposure to excessive 5G radiation, and weakened immune systems?”

Meanwhile, a video doing the rounds on Facebook and Twitter shows a woman claiming that 5G ‘sucks oxygen out of your lungs.’

The woman, whose identity remains unclear, said: “5G absorbs oxygen, and that’s really important to know.

“On your oxygen molecules, the little electrons, with 5G they start to oscillate. So 5G is absorbing the oxygen and then your haemoglobin can’t take up the oxygen.

Coronavirus: What we know so far

“So how long do you think it’s going to take the human body to fall over because it suddenly cannot take up oxygen into cells?”

While Wuhan does have some 5G coverage, there’s absolutely no evidence of a link between the network and the virus.

Public Health England explained: “It is possible that there may be a small increase in overall exposure to radio waves when 5G is added to an existing network or in a new area.

“However, the overall exposure is expected to remain low relative to guidelines and, as such, there should be no consequences for public health.”
