Coronavirus: Hearts and Hibs matches could be closed off with large gatherings to be cancelled

Hearts and Hibs games could be closed off to fans as the Scottish Government announce all mass gatherings should be cancelled.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon earlier issued an update on the coronavirus situation, announcing new measures to be brought in across the country from next week.

Among the measures would be the recommended cancellation of any 'mass gatherings' of more than 500 people.

Should the Scottish football authorities follow this advice then matches would be played behind closed doors.

Yesterday (Wednesday) Hearts announced a number of new measures they had put in place to help prevent the spread of the virus during games.

Edinburgh Live also reported earlier how the UK was expected to move towards the "delay" phase as the country responds to the virus outbreak.

Ans Scottish Secretary Alister Jack has warned Scots to expect "major changes" to their lives as "we are not going to be able to contain it [coronavirus] for much longer".

Schools and universities are not expected to close at this stage.
