An Edinburgh tour guide broke down on BBC Breakfast this morning after admitting she can no longer afford her six year old's birthday party due to the effect coronavirus has had on her business.
Sam Thomson, owner of Edinburgh Tour Guides, fought back tears as she told BBC Breakfast, "It's not looking great" when asked how the coronavirus was effecting her small business.
The heartbroken mum later broke down, admitting that she can no longer afford her daughters birthday party after having most of her tours cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
When asked by BBC Breakfast about her daughter, she teared up saying: "She's gonna be six, her birthday is in two weeks time and we can't afford to have a birthday party to be perfectly honest.
"It's not something you want to say on national telly but there you are.
"We don't know if you would be allowed to have a birthday party in two weeks, because we don't know if schools are still going to be in place.
"It's really hard. How do you explain that to a six year old?"
Sam Thomson spoke to the BBC morning show about the devastating effects the coronavirus has had on her business.
The Edinburgh tour guide has gone from having three cancellations per year, to three per day.
She told BBC Breakfast: "Everything at the beginning of April is starting to cancel now as well, so it doesn't look like we are going to have much of a season this year which is going to kill a lot of small businesses"
"It worrying, we normally at this point are taking all our advance bookings for the season. Our season in the summer time is when we make the money that then gets us through the winter time "
"All our student groups that we normally have this time of year have cancelled. It's going to put a lot of people out of business and I've been doing this 20 years."
