Coronavirus Glasgow: What time does level 3 lockdown start on Friday?

Lockdown rules will be relaxed in Glasgow, Nicola Sturgeon confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.

Our city has been in the strictest level of lockdown, level 4, since November 20, in a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

However, the City of Glasgow, along with 10 other local authority areas across Scotland, have been taken out of level 4, as had been widely anticipated.

Glasgow will soon find itself in level 3, meaning the re-opening of restaurants, non-essential shops and hairdressers, as well as a number of other services.

Announcing the move, the First Minister said: "Given the welcome decrease in rates of Covid across the level 4 areas, I can confirm that the City of Glasgow, Renfrewshire & East Renfrewshire, East and West Dunbartonshire, North & South Lanarkshire, East & South Ayrshire, Stirling & West Lothian will all exit level 4.

"We would hope to see case numbers in these areas continue to decline for another week or so as a result of the level 4 restrictions. There is no doubt that the easing of restrictions that the exit from level 4 involves will give the virus more opportunities to spread.

"In light of that, we have decided to take a cautious approach and apply level 3 protections to all of these local authority areas for a period. We will observe the data carefully before determining in the weeks ahead if and when those 11 authorities should move to level 2."

But when do the rules come into force - when can restaurants start serving customers again, when can we go to the gym and visit shops with Christmas just around the corner?

The Scottish Government say the new rules will come into effect at 6pm on Friday, at the expiry of the level 4 lockdown, meaning the hospitality sector will have to wait until the following day to open for trade - a curfew on food and drink venues is in place until 6pm in level 3.

However, there is an exception for retail premises, which will be able to open at 6am on Friday.
