Coronavirus: Glasgow Pizza Hut restaurant to permanently close as company cuts 450 jobs

A Pizza Hut in the west end is among the 29 UK restaurants expected to close permanently as the company scrambles to "minimise impact" of COVID -19 to the workforce.

The restaurant in Great Western Retail Park in Glasgow is to shut permanently.

Pizza Hut announced the major restructuring could lead to the loss of 450 jobs after sales failed to recover from the pandemic.

A spokeswoman for the chain said: “We are doing everything we can to redeploy our team members from our Pizza Hut Restaurants locations that are closing and minimise the impact to our workforce.

“We are therefore unable to share exact job loss numbers for each Hut.

“We understand this is a difficult time for everyone involved and are supporting our team members as much as possible throughout this transition.”

Closures are announced after new hospitality restrictions were announced in Scotland yesterday by the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

Locations across city centre Glasgow, as well as others in The Forge Retail Park, and Pollokshaws Road will remain.
