Coronavirus: Fourth member of single family dies with 20 more in quarantine after meal

A grandmother and three of her children have died from coronavirus, as 20 more remain in quarantine following a group meal.

Grace Fusco, a mother of 11 and a grandmother of 27, died yesterday not knowing her son had died earlier that day.

Her other son, Vincent Fusco, died today in a devastating blow to his family.

His mother Grace lost her battle with Covid-19 at a hospital in New Jersey in the US, where she had been attached to a ventilator since becoming unwell.

She was a mother of 11 and a grandmother of 27.

When the 73-year-old died she did not know was that her son Carmine Fusco, 55, had died from the disease earlier the same day.

Her daughter Rita Fusco-Jackson, 55, died after contracting the coronavirus on Friday.

The family's lawyer, Roseann Paradiso Fodera, told The New York Times that none of the three victims had underlying health problems.

“It is so pitiful,” she said. “They can’t even mourn the way you would.”

Other members of the family are still being treated for the condition in CentraState Medical Center in New Jersey, with at least two of them in intensive care.

Another 20 family members are quarantined in their homes.

The family is believed to have been exposed to the virus at a family dinner attended by a person who’d been in contact with the first person to die from COVID-19 in the state.

Fusco-Jackson's sister, Elizabeth Fusco, told told   NJ Advance Media  : "This has been devastating for all of us.

"Our hearts are broken over losing our sister, Rita. We just need help in saving our family members with life-saving medication."

It is thought that the outbreak amongst the family is connected to John Brennan.

The 69-year-old horse trainer became the first New Jersey resident to die having contracted the coronavirus.

He had attended a dinner with the Fusco family, the state's health commissioner claimed.

In the US, there are more than 9,400 confirmed cases of infection and more than 150 deaths.
