Former Texas A&M star David Edwards has died after battling coronavirus.
Edwards former Texas A&M teammate Charles Henderson posted about the tragic news on his Facebook account implying that Edwards had passed away due to Covid-19.
An A&M official confirmed reports of Edwards’ death to The Dallas Morning News.
In an emotional post, Mr Henderson wrote: “Never in a million years would I have even imagined my backcourt teammate would go before his time. I just got the news that Dave Edwards passed away. For those that have been praying for him, he is now in a better place.”
“This coronavirus has hit me in the heart. We need to find a vaccine. Dave was one of the fiercest competitors and best point guards that I've ever met. Nearly unstoppable. Learned how to become tough as nails competing against him everyday and shaking off adversity. Will also remember the 4 years we were together after you transferred from Georgetown to Texas A&M. RIP Dave Boogie!!!!,” he wrote.
Edwards was a guard for the Texas A&M basketball team in the early 1990s and held the school’s single-season record for total assists, reports said.
He started his collegiate career at Georgetown and transferred to Texas A&M after one season.
The player later returned to the floor for the Aggies in 1991, averaging 13.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 7.1 assists over three seasons.
