Coronavirus forcing Corrie bosses to rewrite storylines before filming restarts

The COVID-19 outbreak has sparked inspiration for Coronation Street bosses.

Soap bosses have started rewriting explosive storylines to reflect difficult circumstances people have faced in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Corrie star Colson Smith, who shot to fame playing Craig Tinker on the cobbles, shared what was going on behind the scenes in his chat on Lorraine on Friday.

The soap star said he was itching to get back to working on the new scripts being penned by the TV bosses.

As a police officer in the soap, Colson would be playing a major role as a key worker in the pandemic-themed storylines set to take TV by storm.

The actor insisted everyone was working really hard to ensure when they returned to filming they would be "ready".

He said: "It will be interesting.

"I think we’re all looking forward to, when we get the nod to say we’re going back, reading them scripts and reading how we show the guidelines, the social distancing.

"How we show from what we missed. It’s an exciting time, we’ve got a great team of writers behind us, I’m sure they’re all working hard right now to make sure that when we do come back, we’re right and we’re ready."

Colson has been keeping himself amused in isolation with his new car.

Filming Coronation Street was suspended weeks ago because of the COVID-19 outbreak and social distancing guidelines ahead of the UK's lockdown.

Hundreds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale staff across the teams have been furloughed during the crisis.

But ITV said staff will receive their full salaries as the company will pay the 20% not paid by the government.
