Coronavirus: Flights to Czech Republic cancelled after country shuts borders to UK citizens

Jet2 flights to Czech Republic have been cancelled after the country banned UK citizens due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The country has shut its borders after the Czech government declared a state of emergency.

The ban will come into effect at midnight tonight (March 13). From then on, UK citizens without permanent or temporary residency will not be allowed to enter the country.

In response, Jet2 has said it will not be flying UK citizens to Prague from midnight today but will be flying customers back to the UK via a number of scheduled flights.

A spokesperson for the airliner said: "The Czech government has announced that, from midnight on Friday (March 13), UK citizens without permanent or temporary residency will not be permitted to enter the Czech Republic.

"As a result of these measures, we will not be flying UK citizens to Prague from this date, however we will be flying customers back to the UK via our programme of scheduled flights which will operate on Friday 13th, Sunday, 15th and Monday 16th March.

"Czech nationals and UK citizens with permanent or temporary residency will be permitted to fly to the Czech Republic on these dates.

"We are contacting our customers who are currently in Prague, and who are due to travel to Prague, to advise them of their options.

"This is a fast-moving and complex situation, and we would like to thank our customers for their understanding.

"The health and safety of our customers is always our number one priority."
