Coronavirus: Five charged after Nottingham house party broken up twice in four hours

Five partygoers have been charged with breaching coronavirus restrictions after a house bash was shut down by police – only to restart again hours later.

Revellers were found hiding in the loft of the home in Nottingham when officers were first called to the property at 11pm on Saturday.

But after the gathering was broken up, police again attended the property at 3.30am on Sunday to find things back in full swing once more.

Five people have now been charged and six others reported for summons to court following the incident in the city’s Alfreton Road.

It was the fifth time in a week that residents at the house had been reported for large gatherings, with seven fines handed out previously, Nottinghamshire Police revealed.

Superintendent Kevin Broadhead said: "To have people flout the rules not once, not twice but several times and even after being arrested is just astonishing.

"And this coming just as the whole country has just been told that the five-day relaxation bubble is now going to be limited to just Christmas Day due to the spread of the new strain of the virus, makes it even more disturbing.

"These people's actions put lives in danger and the fact they keep on repeating the same offence means they clearly don't care about anyone else."

It is not the first time such parties have been broken up in the city. Ten students have previously been fined there after a shindig celebrating testing esting negative for Covid-19, while, in November, a 200-strong gathering was raided at a halls of residence.
