Coronavirus fines handed out to over 1,300 across Northern Ireland

Police have handed out 1,321 fines to adults who have broken coronavirus regulations in Northern Ireland.

The total number of Penalty Notices, which are issued to over 18s only, date from March to midnight on October 11, 2020.

And 947 Community Resolution Notices have been issued by the PSNI.

Since the beginning of March, 36 individuals who have not isolated as advised to by the PHA, have been given a £1,000 fine.

The PSNI also says officers have issued 73 Prohibition Notices to licenced premises and 206 for restrictions of gatherings in a private dwelling.

A breakdown of these figures down into Local Government District shows Belfast has the highest number of Penalty Notices (667) for coronavirus breaches.

New regulations brought in by the NI Executive last week come into effect today.

Fixed penalty notices have now risen from £60 to a fixed tariff of £200 per offence.

There will be a £1,000 fixed penalty notice for offences including failure to close a business as required, a breach of early closing time rules or failure to implement measures to maintain social distancing.

Fines of up to £10,000 for people convicted of three Covid offences.
