Coronavirus fears sees Waitrose ban couples from shopping together

Waitrose has reportedly implemented a "one customer per household" rule in their UK stores to help fight the spread of coronavirus.

Customers have branded the move "tremendous" online, as Waitrose joins other supermarkets in taking tougher steps to help ease the outbreak.

Tesco is only letting 50 customers in at a time in some bigger stores, while the likes of Aldi and Asda have hired extra security to help cap the number of shoppers in at once.

Stores have also put two metre markers on the ground to help with social distancing.

However as Gloucestershire Live reports, the move by Waitrose - which has shops throughout Tyneside, including Jesmond and Ponteland - has been praised.

""Tremendous effort by @waitrose in Cheltenham today.," tweeted one shopper.

"As I waited outside after being told it was ‘one adult per household’ the way the staff engaged and boosted the public morale was inspiring. Applause to the unsung heroes!"
