Coronavirus fears at UK hotel as guest 'self quarantines in room after Thailand trip'

There are coronavirus fears at a Liverpool hotel after a man has reportedly self-quarantined himself in his room.

The male guest is thought to have recently returned from a trip to Thailand, according to the Liverpool Echo .

He has been staying at the Radisson Blu hotel on Old Hall Street in Liverpool's city centre for the last three days before he allegedly began presenting with recognised coronavirus symptoms yesterday, February 28.

According to a man who wants to remain anonymous, the guest has called 111 and is currently waiting for a health professional to be sent out to assess him.

They told the Echo: "A man has decided to self-quarantine himself in his room after he started showing symptoms of coronavirus.

"He's recently returned from Thailand and has now decided to stay inside his room.

"He has called 111 and is waiting for someone from the NHS to come out and see him to confirm it.

"But he's been staying in the hotel for the last three days and has used the restaurant and the bar and other facilities.

"There are hundreds of people staying in the hotel so it could have already spread in that time.

"I'm worried about my health," they continued.

"I just want it to be taken more seriously, no one has been sent out to see him yet."

It's possible the guest could be taken to the nearby Arrowe Park Hospital, where other patients potentially suffering with the illness have been quarantined.

A spokesperson from the Radisson Hotel Group, said: "Radisson Hotel Group is dedicated is dedicated to assist with the wellbeing of any guest or employee.

"Should the local health authorities advise us to do so, isolation rooms have been prepared in the hotels if required.

"A system if extra investment in hygiene, sanitation and vital requirements will be provided and we are currently training all staff with procedures to ensure containment where possible.

"We are taking regular advice jointly from the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and World Health Organisation (WHO) to continue working towards providing the best support and containment where required."
