Coronavirus fear sees Glasgow University worker sent home ill after returning from Italy

A member of staff at the University of Glasgow has been sent home ill over fears of coronavirus .

The female School of Education worker had taken unwell after recently returned back to Scotland from Rome in Italy.

An email sent round the university told how the decision was taken as a precautionary measure, with her symptoms "not necessarily consistent" with the virus.

A University of Glasgow spokesperson said: "A colleague returned from Rome (not in the affected area of Italy) and was feeling unwell yesterday.

"The individual was not exhibiting symptoms consistent with Coronavirus, but as a precaution the colleague was told to go home and call NHS 111.

"They instructed the person to self isolate. That is entirely in keeping with public health advice.

"We were aware that some colleagues in the same department as this person were expressing concern, and to stem any further rumours we issued a communication which summarised the above."
