A counter disinformation unit has been activated by the UK Government to "protect and secure" the country from interference and disinformation linked to the coronavirus.
The unit, comprised of teams across Whitehall, will respond to online disinformation circulating about the outbreak.
Edinburgh Live understands the team will work across the UK.
The unit will focus specifically on deliberately created false or manipulated information that is intended to deceive and mislead audiences.
Gin and tonic is just one a number of fake cures for coronavirus which have spread online in recent days.
The French Government were forced to warn that cocaine would not prevent the virus after Tweets recommending the drug went viral online.
Government officials will be working with strategic communications experts to make sure the government is "prepared to respond" where necessary.
The work will include "regular and robust" engagement with social media companies over possible scams, the government said.
Announcing the unit, culture secretary Oliver Dowden said defending the country from misinformation was a "top priority".
Dowden said: “As part of our ongoing work to tackle these threats we have brought together expert teams to make sure we can respond effectively should these threats be identified in relation to the spread of Covid-19.
“This work includes regular engagement with the social media companies, which are well placed to monitor interference and limit the spread of disinformation, and will make sure we are on the front foot to act if required."
