Coronavirus expert shares picture of increasingly common symptom

A top coronavirus expert has shared a picture of a common Covid-19 symptom that isn't widely discussed.

Professor Tom Spector, epidemiologist at King's College London and lead scientist on the Zoe Covid Symptom Study UK Infection Survey, has said one in five patients are now presenting with the increasingly common side effect.

Posting his findings on Twitter, he said: "One in five people with Covid still present with less common symptoms that don't get on the official PHE list - such as skin rashes.

"Seeing increasing numbers of Covid tongues and strange mouth ulcers.

"If you have a strange symptom or even just headache and fatigue stay at home!"

The most commonly reported symptoms of Covid are a cough, a fever and a loss of sense of taste or smell, reports Wales Online.

But people with confirmed cases of the virus have also suffered from fatigue, confusion and an upset stomach.

The vast majority of people who test positive do not have any key symptoms on the day of their test, a study has suggested.

Some 77 per cent of respondents who had a positive test had no symptoms on the day of their test, while 86 per cent did not have a cough, temperature or loss of taste/smell.

Researchers led by Professor Irene Petersen at University College London (UCL) analysed data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) coronavirus infection survey, which has been testing thousands of households every week regardless of whether people have symptoms.

The analysis looked at data for 36,061 people who had a test between the end of April and the end of June.
