Coronavirus Edinburgh: Woman took out measuring tape on Meadows to check social distancing

An Edinburgh man says a woman took out a tape measure when he was chatting to his friend in Meadows.

The 68-year-old claims he noticed a friend while he was taking his daily lockdown exercise and the two spoke - at a safe social distance.

But to his surprise - and bemusement - a woman ran up to them and started measuring the distance they were apart.

He shared his story with BBC Scotland.

He told the broadcaster: "Suddenly this woman came up to us shouting that were were too close and produced a measuring tape from her pocket.

"She then began measuring the distance between us. I was shocked by her behaviour and reaction."

An Edinburgh mother also spoke to BBC, claiming her son was labelled "stupid child" by a passerby for playing hide and seek.

She said: "My seven-year-old was running one tree ahead of us in Inverleith Park, then jumping out and shouting 'boo'. A couple walking the other direction called him 'stupid child' and said he should have been at my side."

Another woman said she witnessed an older gentleman shouting at people out for a jog on Cramond Beach. She said: "They calmly explained that they were flatmates and had been together for the past three weeks and hadn't seen anyone else, but the man still carried on shouting.

"He didn't apologise and carried on saying they were still in the wrong. It wasn't fair at all.

"People are judging so fast, it's unreal."
