Coronavirus Edinburgh: National Museums Scotland closes all attractions until further notice

National Museums Scotland has closed all of its locations including the National Museum of Scotland on Chambers Street, the Museum of Flight and National War Museum at Edinburgh Castle due to the coronavirus outbreak.

In a statement today, the museums announced that their doors would shut at 5pm until further notice:

"In response to the impact of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) we have made the decision to close all our museums to the public from Tuesday 17 March at 5pm until further notice.

"This will include the National Museum of Scotland, the National Museum of Flight, the National Museum of Rural Life and the National War Museum at Edinburgh Castle.

The national collections within our care will continue to be monitored and made secure during this time."

Members of the public that have bought a ticket to any upcoming event or exhibition will be offered a full refund.

The attraction also thanked the public for their continued support, and stated that during this closure they hope to post stories and pictures from their collections online for the public to enjoy.

The closure comes amidst the latest figures from the Scottish Government, confirming 30 cases of coronavirus in the Lothians, with the Scottish total now at 195.

Monday saw Boris Johnson announce that the public should avoid any sort of social gatherings and any non-essential travel.
