Coronavirus: Edinburgh Napier University suspends face-to-face teaching due to COVID-19

Edinburgh Napier University is to suspend face-to-face teaching due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The university operates three campuses - at Merchiston, Sighthill and Craiglockart - teaching over 15,000 students.

A statement from Edinburgh Napier University said: "Due to the continued outbreak of COVID-19, we're making significant changes that will affect all students and staff.

"All face-to-face teaching will be suspended from the end of Tues 17 March onwards. From 23 March, all teaching will be done online.

"We appreciate that these are difficult and uncertain times which causes anxiety for many.

"We are doing all we can to ensure student and staff safety and security and ask for your patience at this time."

On Friday, Edinburgh University shut down in-person classes and cancelled exams due to coronavirus .

A spokesperson for the prestigious university said the decision was taken in order to "safeguard their community" during the pandemic.

Mass gatherings are also set to be banned across the country from next weekend in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The latest figures for coronavirus cases in Scotland show another sharp rise, with five new confirmed cases in the Lothians and 121 throughout Scotland.
