Coronavirus: Dublin teen arrested after woman garda 'spat on, called slut' and threatened with COVID-19 bug

A Dublin teenager has been arrested following a massive incident of anti-social behaviour in the capital which saw members of the gardai reportedly verbally abused and threatened with coronavirus.

As many as 12 young teenagers were reported to have been causing the disturbance at Dun Laoghaire pier on Tuesday evening.

Gardai were called after the huge gang were allegedly spotted harassing members of the public and joking about having the ability to give them coronavirus.

One eye-witness claimed to Dublin Live that when officers did arrive, they were verbally abused by the teens.

They said: "One female garda at the scene got a real hard time from the gang. They spat on her, threatened to cough on her and give her coronavirus and called her a slut. It was disgraceful scenes".

When trying to get the group to clear the area, one of the teenage boys was arrested and taken to Dun Laoghaire Garda Station.

A spokeswoman for Gardai added: "We are aware of ongoing social media reports in relation to people engaged in ‘coughing’ at other people.

"This activity could amount to an offence under the Public Order Act or Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

"An Garda Siochana will treat any reports of this type of activity seriously."
