Coronavirus Dublin school: Holy Family National, Rathcoole confirms virus case as pupils sent home for two weeks

The Dublin school involved in the first positive coronavirus case since the reopening of primary and secondary schools across Ireland has been confirmed to Dublin Live.

Holy Family National School in Rathcoole told Dublin Live that the school had contracted its first case of COVID-19 since reopening last week.

The school would not confirm whether the infected case was a pupil or staff member but did say that the class in question had been sent home following the news.

It is understood that the person contracted the virus outside of the school and that the class had just been sent home as a precautionary measure.

The classroom in question has been deep cleaned following the confirmed case with lessons for the class planned to be carried out online for the next fortnight.

Pupils from that particular class have been instructed to remain home and restrict movements for 14 days with public health officials set to contact parents in the next 48 hours according to an email from the school.

The email also warned parents that it is "inevitable" that there will be "more such cases" throughout the year.

The email also added that although they were telling parents about the first case, they would "not be informing of each individual further cases unless instructed by public health to do so".
