Coronavirus Dublin: Granddad-of-four, 83, latest victim to die from horrific COVID-19 bug

A south Dublin stalwart has become one of the latest people to tragically die at the hands of coronavirus.

Christopher 'Christy' O'Malley is said to have died "unexpectedly but peacefully" at St. James's Connolly Hospital following a short but severe battle with COVID-19 on March 30.

The 83-year-old lived in Crumlin before making the short move to Palmerstown in later years making sure to always stay loyal to his southside roots.

The granddad-of-four and dad-of-three was a beloved husband of his late wife Ann and a loving dad to son Paul and daughters Patricia and Áine.

He is sadly missed by his brother and sisters John, Pat and Phyllis, sons-in-law Dara and Niall, daughter-in-law Kim, grandchildren Rachel, Alex, Eleana and Oisín, sister-in-law Pat and her husband Frank, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, relatives and friends.

Due to government advice regarding public gatherings, a private funeral will take place to honour Christy in the coming days.

Christy is sadly one of the 174 people confirmed by the HSE to have died due to COVID-19 as of Monday.

A total of 370 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Ireland yesterday, bringing the overall total in the country to over 5,000 with 16 new deaths revealed.

Eleven of the deaths were in the east of the country, 5 in the west of the country while six of the patients were female and ten were male.

The total amount of cases in Ireland now stands at 5,364.
