Coronavirus: Dublin Gardai help Easter Bunny deliver eggs across the capital during COVID-19 lockdown

The gardai have been helping one of our most beloved essential workers during the coronavirus lockdown this Easter.

Officers were seen giving a helping hand to the Easter Bunny, as he delivered eggs to the Temple Street Children’s Hospital yesterday.

Although Minister Simon Harris confirmed the Easter Bunny was an 'essential worker' during the COVID-19 lockdown, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris later said that Easter Egg deliveries are not an essential journey.

He said: "Visiting family members if there's a critical need is essential but delivering easter eggs is not a critical need.”

While this advice still stands for regular Dubliners, it appears the gardai are doing what they can to help our furry friend complete his deliveries.

When they’re not working directly with the bunny, they have been delivering eggs themselves to various homes in Dublin where people are self-isolating.

They delivered Easter eggs to elderly members of the Malahide community, while others helped Aoibheann’s Pink Tie Charity to deliver some delicious goods to “extra special children in our community” in Blanchardstown.

The gardai wished to thank Tesco in Cabra for the generous donation of eggs that went to the children’s hospital.
