The Ivy League men’s and women’s basketball tournaments have been cancelled for 2020, the league announced on Tuesday, to protect “health of students as well as the campus and the general community” amid the spread of coronavirus.
The Ivy League will also implement “highly-restrictive, in-venue spectator limitations” for all athletic competitions on Ivy League campuses, and has cancelled “all out-of-season practices and competitions.”
As a result of the cancelled conference tournaments, Yale (23-7) has earned an automatic qualification to the men’s NCAA tournament, and No. 22 Princeton (26-1) has earned a spot in the women’s NCAA tournament.

“The decision has been made in accordance with the guidance of public health and medical professionals to discourage and limit large gatherings on campuses in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.”
Harvard guard Bryce Aiken slammed the Ivy League for the decision to cancel the tournaments. Harvard ended its regular season by beating Yale, 83-69, but now will not have a chance to play its way into the NCAA tournament.
