Coronavirus deaths rise by 52 per cent in Perth and Kinross in a week

Nearly 40 people in Perth and Kinross have now died from COVID-19.

The latest statistics from the National Records of Scotland show 38 deaths recorded in the region up until Sunday, April 26 had the coronavirus listed on the death certificate.

That is an increase of 13 in a week from 25 on April 19.

The data, released earlier today, shows eight of the deaths were in care homes with a further four at home or in a non-instituation setting.

Twenty-six of the deaths were in hospital.

As at April 26, 2272 deaths have been registered in Scotland where COVID-19 was mentioned in the death certificate.

Coronavirus has been responsible for 4.5 per cent of all deaths in the region in 2020, but was responsible for nearly 26 per cent of deaths across Scotland between April 20 and 26.

Almost three quarters of registered deaths involving COVID-19 to date were people aged 75 or over.

Of all deaths in Scotland to date involving COVID-19, 53 per cent were male and 47 per cent were female.
