Coronavirus deaths Ireland: Well-known Dublin solicitor latest victim to die from COVID-19 after weeks battling in Mater Hospital ICU

A well-known Dublin solicitor has sadly died after a long battle of fighting the cruel coronavirus in an intensive care unit in one of the capital's busiest hospitals.

Seán Gallagher lost his fight with COVID-19 on Monday after spending weeks in Mater Hospital's ICU.

The victim had qualified as a solicitor in 1975 before establishing his own practice in Merchant's Court in 1994 according to Irish Legal News.

In recent times, Sean had taken a step back from active practice to enjoy the later years of his life which have cruelly been snatched from him because of the horrible virus.

His family praised the staff at the hospital “for the exceptional care shown to Seán during his illness”.

He died peacefully on Monday after what loved ones described as "a brave fight, with family in attendance".

A private family funeral will take place on Friday for Sean with mass streamed at 11am on the Saint Francis Xavier Church website.

He is sadly missed by his wife Noelle and dear children Niamh, John, Hugh and Aifric as well as his brother Colm, grandchildren Pearse and Nora and extended family and friends.

The family added: "Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu, if desired, to The Mater Foundation."
