Coronavirus deaths continue to rise at one of Bristol's hospitals

The coronavirus death toll at Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) has risen again.

In NHS England's daily update from today (May 21), two new deaths were announced at the BRI while the number of deaths at Southmead Hospital remained the same.

The number of Covid-19 related deaths at the city centre hospital was at 91 on May 11, while Southmead's figure was at 108.

Since then, Southmead's death toll has risen by just three, to 111, but the BRI's figure has increased by 17, to 108.

It means a total of 219 people are now known to have died with coronavirus in Bristol.

Public Health England's update from today shows Bristol's confirmed cases have risen by three, to 691.

And North Somerset's figure has increased by 13, to 378.

South Gloucestershire has remained at 399 cases, while Bath and North East Somerset has stayed at 230.

A further 338 Covid-19 deaths were announced today in the UK, taking the total to 36,042.

The latest patients to have died in England were aged between 14 and 98 years old.

Six of the 187 patients, aged between 46 and 94, had no known underlying health condition.
