Coronavirus death toll in Scotland reaches 1,559 as a further 44 people pass away

The number of people to have died on account of coronavirus in Scotland has reached 1,559, with a further 44 people sadly passing away in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile the Scottish Government has confirmed a further 273 positive cases of coronavirus in the country.

As of today, Saturday May 2, a total of 58,833 people in Scotland have been tested for covid-19. 46,906 of these tests were confirmed as negative, with 11,927 positive cases, although that number is, as ever, a clear underestimate with so many people self-isolating at home during lockdown.

As per the latest figures, there are 1,674 people in Scottish hospitals with either confirmed or suspected coronavirus, with 108 in intensive care last night.

Specifically in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, to date there have been 2,939 confirmed covid-19 cases. As of midnight last night, 530 people were in hospital, with 42 in intensive care.
