Coronavirus death toll in Scotland: how many people have died as of November 5

Scotland's coronavirus death toll has risen once again after a further 39 deaths were registered overnight.

Nicola Sturgeon confirmed that the country's death toll now stands at 2,966 as of November 5.

The figure accounts for 18 deaths in NHS Greater Glasgow, bringing the seven day total in the health board to 48 and overall total to 896.

Six further deaths were registered in NHS Lanarkshire bringing the death toll over the last seven days to 44 and overall total to 470. 156 deaths have been confirmed of people across Scotland in one week alone.

However, the number of deaths from the virus could be much higher in reality as the Scottish Government figures only account for the deaths where Covid was confirmed at the time of death.

The National Records of Scotland data includes deaths where coronavirus was mentioned on the death certificate - whether confirmed or suspected.

That death toll is currently at 4,649, with a further 167 recorded between October 26 and November 1. This figure is the highest weekly total since the week beginning May 18.

The R number in Scotland is now believed to be 'hovering' around 1.

Nicola Sturgeon has said that the restrictions and compliance from the public is beginning to have an impact on the infection rate.
