Coronavirus death toll in Scotland: how many people have died as of November 4

Scotland's coronavirus death toll has risen dramatically after a further 50 deaths were registered overnight.

Nicola Sturgeon confirmed a sharp rise in deaths of patients with confirmed Covid-19.

The figure is the highest registered since early May and accounts for 16 deaths in Greater Glasgow and 15in Lanarkshire.

As of November 4, the death toll in Scotland now stands at 2,927.

In the last seven days, 177 deaths have been confirmed of people across Scotland.

However, the number of deaths from the virus could be much higher in reality as the Scottish Government figures only account for the deaths where Covid was confirmed at the time of death.

The National Records of Scotland data includes deaths where coronavirus was mentioned on the death certificate - whether confirmed or suspected.

That death toll is currently at 4,649, with a further 167 recorded between October 26 and November 1. This figure is the highest weekly total since the week beginning May 18.

Under the NRS figures, we can see that 51 of the deaths were in Lanarkshire, 51 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde and 18 in Ayrshire and Arran.

At a council level the highest number of deaths occurred in Glasgow City - with 34 registered in the last week.
