Coronavirus death toll in Northern Ireland rises by one as cases jump by 159

Another patient in Northern Ireland has sadly died after testing positive for  Covid-19.

The new figures released by the Public Health Agency show the number of deaths in Northern Ireland is now 194.

As of 10.30am on April 19, a further 159 positive cases were confirmed, bringing the total number of positive cases here to 2,645 - Belfast Live reports.

The new figures also show that the number of individuals that have been tested for the virus has risen by 786 in the last 24 hours to 16,490 - Belfast Live reports.

Since Saturday, 13 individuals were tested at the SSE Testing Centre in Belfast, and 32 at the  City of Derry  Rugby Testing Centre.

A further 41 deaths and 778 more cases of coronavirus were confirmed in the Republic of Ireland on Saturday.

The update takes the death toll in the Republic to 571 and the cases total to 14,758.

The cases update is made up of 630 new cases confirmed in Irish labs and 148 reported by a lab in Germany as of 11.15am, Saturday 18 April.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre said 35 of the deaths were located in the east, two in the northwest and four in the west of the country.

The deaths included 23 women and 18 men.
