Coronavirus death toll at Royal Bolton Hospital reaches 200 patients

A total of 200 people have now died at the Royal Bolton Hospital after contracting the coronavirus.

Figures announced today show two more patients passed away as a result of Covid-19, with one death occurring in the last 24 hours.

The number of deaths at the hospital has been consistently falling in recent weeks in line with data from across the region.

Eight people have passed away after contracting Covid-19 at the Royal Bolton over the last seven days, with three reported on Friday.

Across Greater Manchester, the total number of coronavirus-related deaths is now at least 1,653 - although the true number is thought to be much higher.

Hundreds more have died at care homes and in their own homes across the region since the outbreak started.

But, statistics detailing how many people have died from the virus outside hospital are only released once a week.

Bosses at Bolton Hospital have warned that they expect a second wave of the virus will be "inevitable".

While staff are under less pressure than they were at the height of the pandemic, they have already started preparing for further outbreaks in the future.
