Coronavirus: Dan Walker and Louise Minchin 'self distance' on BBC sofa baffling viewers

Dan Walker and Louise Minchin had viewers wondering if they'd fallen out on BBC Breakfast this morning as the duo sat with a huge space between them on the sofa.

The presenters appeared to be following the latest advice regarding 'self distancing' in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In his address to the nation yesterday, Boris Johnson warned the public to avoid unnecessary social contact.

And Dan and Louise appeared to be heeding the guidelines very closely as they kept well away from each other as they fronted the show.

One viewer at home noted: "If there’s anything that epitomises the weird times we live in, it’s the fact that Dan Walker and Louise Minchin are sitting about four feet apart on the #BBCBreakfast sofa.

"Dan and Louise sitting apart on the BBC Breakfast sofa, giving off a strong Basil and Sybil Fawlty in their twin beds vibe," laughed another.

However, others commended their efforts and praised them for being an example to viewers.

"BBC offering a good public service. Well done! Dan & Louise," said one fan of the show.

Yesterday, Boris Johnson urged the UK to avoid all 'non essential' contact in a bid to fight the fast-spreading coronavirus pandameic.

He also advised mass gatherings should be stopped and called on people to work from home where they could.

"Now is the time for everyone to stop non essential contact with others and to stop all unnecessary travel," he said, as the U.K. death toll rose to 55 on Sunday.

"We need people to start working from home where they possibly can. And you should avoid pubs, clubs, theaters and other such social venues."
