Coronavirus 'crowns' launched at Burger King to help with social distancing measures

As we start to see some light at the end of the tunnel  after March's lockdown began, we may have just been given a glimpse of what the re-opening of one of our favourite fast food restaurants could look like.

Some food chains have opened back up for takeaways, with many McDonalds and Burger King serving through their drive-thrus.

The restaurants look set to remain closed until at least the beginning of July but other countries are already ahead, reports the Mirror.

Germany has introduced 'social distancing crowns' to help keep their customers apart in their Burger King restaurants.

And it's got people around the world wondering if the hilarious method could catch on in other countries.

A picture of two customers wearing the massive hats, made from cardboard, was shared on Twitter by Burger King US.

The chain's social media carried the picture, with the caption "Distancing, but make it fashion."

The viral tweet has sent followers across the world into a frenzy, with many desperate to copy the look.

But so far, you can only get hold of one in Germany.

Speaking to  Business Insider,  a spokesperson for Burger King said: "We wanted to reinforce the rules of high safety and hygiene standards that the BK restaurants are following.

"The do-it-yourself social-distance crown was a fun and playful way to remind our guests to practice social distancing while they are enjoying food in the restaurants."

A 'Social Distancing Whopper' packed full of onions to repel other people has been another amusing idea banded around by the fast food chain in Italy.

Other creative ideas like mannequins in empty seats at a Michelin-starred restaurant in the US and hats topped with swimming pool noodles at a Germany cafe have also been causing a stir.
