Coronavirus crisis to close all Primark stores in Scotland from tonight

Primark will close all 189 of its UK stores tonight amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Associated British Foods Plc, which owns the retail giant, intends to close stores from Sunday night after cancelling all new orders from suppliers as demand shrinks.

The fashion retailer has cancelled all new clothing orders from suppliers such as factories in India and Bangladesh but will continue to honour orders already shipped or delivered to Primark warehouses or stores.

It comes as all bars, clubs, restaurants and cafes were ordered to close their doors on Friday night.

Boris Johnson said some can remain open but only for take-away.

A Primark spokesperson told the Mirror said: "With the health and welfare of our employees and customers front of mind, we have made the decision to close our stores in the UK, until further notice.

"We thank all our employees, customers, suppliers and partners for their continued support."

Primark isn't the first retail giant to close its doors as Ikea announced it would be shutting all shops late last week.
