Coronavirus: Costa Coffee warns 1,650 jobs are at risk

Costa Coffee has announced up to 1,650 jobs are at risk as it struggles to recover after the lockdown.

The company said it planned to axe the role of assistant store manager across its UK business.

Costa said: "The ongoing impact of COVID-19 remains challenging for Costa Coffee and has required the business to make difficult decisions to ensure that as many jobs as possible are protected long-term."

It is unsure how many jobs will be affected in Scotland or Glasgow yet.

A spokeswoman told Glasgow Live: "This is a UK announcement and at the time we are unable to share a further information regarding Scotland specifically."

There are currently 25 Costa Coffee stores in and around Glasgow, with 10 in the city centre.
