Coronavirus contact tracing underway at Ayr Academy for second time in a fortnight

Coronavirus contact tracing is underway at an Ayr school for the second time in a fortnight.

The NHS Test & Protect team is tracking a case with links to Ayr Academy.

The same school was also affected by positive cases of the virus on October 7.

Officials said a "small number of individuals" are being contacted and told to self-isolate at home for 14 days.

Joy Tomlinson, Joint Director of Public Health at NHS Ayrshire & Arran, said: "We appreciate this is a very worrying time.

"However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect pupils and staff.

"We would like to remind people of the symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19): new persistent cough; high temperature; and / or loss of taste and smell.

"Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self-isolate immediately."
