Coronavirus: Co Down football club cancels all training and activities

A Co Down football club has cancelled all training because of the coronavirus crisis.

Carryduff Colts suspended all club activities indefinitely from today [March 12].

Earlier today the GAA, Camogie Association, and the LGFA postponed games, training and team gatherings.

The Irish Rugby Football Union and Football Association of Ireland also suspended all domestic activity, while other sporting organisations said they were following government and medical advice.

Carryduff Colts chairman Eamon Deeny said it was a precautionary move.

He added: "We're just trying to take a responsible attitude. We’ve got a lot of young kids in the club.

"Rather than wait until the point where you do actually have a case, we just thought it was in the best interests of everybody."

The club is still waiting on advice on whether matches will continue.

Mr Deeny said: "We anticipate at some stage the league will decide not to hold matches but at this stage we haven’t had that confirmed."
