Coronavirus cluster of eight positive cases linked to Greater Glasgow and Clyde identified

A cluster of eight positive coronavirus cases have been identified in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

The region's NHS health board has confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway.

A number of businesses across the region have been linked to the outbreak, including an Inverclyde pharmacy due to contact tracing.

An NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde-led Incident Management Team is working with the Scottish Government, Health Protection Scotland (HPS) and local environmental health teams to provide advice and support.

NHSGGC has said None of the cases are experiencing anything but mild symptoms.

Close contacts are being advised to self-isolate and other identified contacts are being followed up and given appropriate advice.

The health board has said no further details will be released in order to respect and maintain patient confidentiality.

It comes as Nicola Sturgeon confirmed earlier today that 14 of the 22 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours are in the Greater Glasgow Health Board area.

There has also been an earlier outbreak at Lanarkshire call centre Sitel, where the number of positive cases associated rose to 27 last week.

Contact tracing in the incident led to the temporary closure and deep cleaning of three pubs, a coffee shop and a store.
