Coronavirus claims further two lives in Dumfries and Galloway in past week

A further two people in Dumfries and Galloway have lost their lives to coronavirus in the past week.

It takes the total for 2021 to 87 and the overall figure for the pandemic to 166.

Last week was the first this year where National Records of Scotland recorded no new deaths in the district.

Their figures are based on the number of cases where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

By that method, there were 104 deaths in Scotland last week, compared to 141 the week before. It takes the overall total to 9,831.

The daily Scottish Government figures are announced based on people to have died within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test.

By yesterday, there had been 7,517 deaths by that measure.
