Coronavirus: Chelsea's Mason Mount to be reminded of responsibilities after breaking self-isolation

Chelsea will remind midfielder Mason Mount of his responsibilities after he was seen breaking self-isolation during the coronavirus crisis,

The England international was seen playing football in London on Sunday with West Ham United’s Declan Rice, despite the entire Chelsea first-team squad being placed in self-isolation due to Callum Hudson-Odoi’s positive test for coronavirus.

The 21-year-old is supposed to isolate himself in line with government guidelines, and although the club have not stated when players were due to report back for training, the advice at the time was to undergo 14 days of self-isolation. Those who are showing symptoms of coronavirus such as Hudson-Odoi are now advised to self-isolate for at least seven days.

It’s understood that Chelsea are aware of Mount breaking self-isolation and will speak with him about his responsibilities.

A Chelsea statement issued last Friday read: “Chelsea men’s team player Callum Hudson-Odoi had a positive test result for Coronavirus returned this evening.

“Chelsea personnel who had recent close contact with the player in the men’s team building will now self-isolate in line with Government health guidelines. These will include initially the full men’s team squad, coaching staff and a number of backroom staff.”

Under the Health Protection (Coronavirus) Regulation 2020, which has been published on the government’s website, those who refuse to adhere to self-isolation can be fined up to £1,000 and subsequently imprisoned if they repeatedly defy government guidelines.

The Premier League is currently suspended until 4 April due to the coronavirus pandemic.
