Over the last two days, more than 15 million protective face masks and 1.9 million eye protectors have been delivered to front-line NHS staff across the country, to help them tackle the virus.

Earlier this week, the government ordered people to only leave their homes under a list of “very limited purposes”, banned public gatherings of more than two people and ordered the closure of non-essential shops, as part of an unprecedented lockdown.

It has also closed schools, pubs, restaurants and cinemas in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.
